Experience a unique journey of discovering natural indigo dye directly from the plant. This workshop invites you to wander through an Indigofera garden in a serene and beautiful countryside, while learning about the history of Indigofera in Indonesia, which has been used for centuries to produce its signature natural blue hue. The journey begins with a short garden tour to learn about the plant and its cultivation, as well as witnessing firsthand the process of making indigo paste until it is ready to be used as a natural dye. Afterward, you will be guided through a hands-on shibori session, a traditional Japanese folding and binding technique that creates unique patterns. The workshop is led by makers from Puspita Batik and takes place in Poncosari, Srandakan, Bantul. This workshop lasts for 5-6 hours and is suitable for beginners, craft enthusiasts, tourists, or anyone looking to start a business in the traditional textile (wastra) industry. Things to note for this workshop: 1. Bring a hat, and wear comfortable clothing and footwear (shoes or sandals). 2. The Kriyanesa team will pick you up and drop you off at the workshop venue, so there will be meeting points in 2 locations (Yogyakarta city and Bantul) which will be shared via WhatsApp.
